Reaction Steps
A mixture of 3-iodoquinoline (6 g, 23.5 mmol), 2-trifluoromethyl benzenethiol (5 g, 28 mmol), CuI (225 mg, 3.89 mmol), ethylene glycol (3.5 g, 56.4 mmol), K2CO3 (8 g, 58 mmol) in isopropanol (20 mL) was refluxed under N2 for 12 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a short pad of silica gel and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to dryness. The product was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel to give the product 3-(2-trifluoromethyl-phenylsulfanyl)-quinoline (8.1 g, 95%)
