Reaction Steps
In an Emrys microwave, 4-(1,3-dioxan-2-yl)-3-(phenylsulfonyl)benzonitrile (260 mg, 0.789 mmol) and pyridinium 4-toluenesulfonate (149 mg, 0.592 mmol; 0.75 eq.) in acetone/water (1:1, 3 ml) were heated with stirring at 160° C. for 6 min. The reaction mixture was then added to water (50 ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (8×20 ml). The combined organic phases were subsequently washed with saturated sodium chlroide solution (2×30 ml), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The title compound was obtained as a solid (0.21 g, quant.).
