Reaction Steps

1.16 g (10 mmol) of crude 70b in 20 mL of ethanol was treated with boc-piperidinone (1.99 g, 10 mmol) and NaOAc.3H2O (2.04 g, 15 mmol). The reaction was heated up to 70° C. overnight. The ethanol was evaporated to 3 mL and the solution was diluted with water and a fine precipitate was filtered. The solid was dissolved in DCM, dried and concentrated to give 0.65 g of solid. The filtrate was extracted with ethyl acetate 3 times, dried and combined with the solid to give 1.1 g of crude 70c.
