To a solution of 100 mg (0.29 mmol) 5-(2-Chloro-pyridin-4-ylethynyl)-3-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-2-methyl-3H-imidazole-4-carbaldehyde (example 26) in 5 ml of methanol were added at 0° C. 11 mg (0.29 mmol) of sodium borohydride, and the mixture was stirred for 1 h at 0° C. The reaction mixture was quenched with sat. NaHCO3− solution and evaporated. The residue was extracted with water and ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried with sodium sulfate, filtered and evaporated. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (heptane/ethyl acetate 1:1). The desired compound was obtained as a white solid (40 mg, 40%), MS: m/e=342.1 (M+H+).
