Reaction Steps

To a stirring solution of (2-chloro-6-(dimethylamino)pyridin-4-yl)methanol in 7 mL of pyridine was added 1.2 mL of Ac2O. After the solution was stirred for 12 h, the solution was concentrated, and saturated NaHCO3 solution was added to pH=7. The aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc, and the organic layer was washed with H2O (15 mL) and brine (15 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated. Purification by flash silica gel chromatography (15% EtOAc/hexanes) provided (2-chloro-6-(dimethylamino)pyridin-4-yl)methyl acetate as a yellow oil with some impurity.
