3,4-Dichlorophenylmethanesulfenyl chloride is prepared from the corresponding 3,4-dichlorobenzyl mercaptan in accordance with the procedure of Example I for the preparation of the sulfenyl chloride, except that this reaction is conducted under cooling conditions.
