Reaction Steps
A solution of 50 g. of sodium nitrite is added dropwise to a solution of 34.6 g. of ethyl 2'-benzoyl-4'-chloro-malonanilate in 250 ml. of glacial acetic acid. After 11/2 hours stirring at room temperature, the oxime crystallizes out and is filtered off by suction, washed with water and dried in vacuum. Ethyl 2'-benzoyl-4'-chloro-mesoxalanilate 2-oxime, m.p. 98°-105° is obtained.
