Reaction Steps

The reaction of 5-((2-aminoethyl)thiomethyl)thiazole (2.24 g.) with methyl isothiocyanate (0.94 g.) in ethanol (10 ml.) gave a thiourea which was purified by chromatography on a column of silica gel with ethyl acetate as eluant. Recrystallisation from isopropyl acetate-methyl ether ketone-ether gave N-methyl-N'-[2-(5-thiazolylmethylthio)ethyl]thiourea (2.1 g.) m.p. 86°-88° p iii. The reaction of N-methyl-N'-[2-(5-thiazolylmethylthio)ethyl]thiourea with lead cyanamide by the procedure of Example 3(b) gives the title compound.
