Dissolve 3-[2-(2,4,6-Trimethoxy-phenyl)-acetylamino]-benzoic acid methyl ester (16) (140 mg, 0.39 mmol) in THF (25.0 mL) at rt and add 1M aqu LiOH (2.0 mL, 2.0 mmol). Stir reaction mixture 40 h at rt. Quench reaction mixture (cooling bath) with 2M aqu. HCl. Extract the mixture with EtOAc (3×), wash the combined organic layer with brine and dry with Na2SO4 to obtain 3-[2-(2,4,6-Trimethoxy-phenyl)-acetylamino]-benzoic acid (17) (134 mg, 99%) as a beige solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD): 3.71 (s, 2 H); 3.84 (s, 3 H); 3.85 (s, 6 H); 6.29 (s, 2 H); 7.43 (t, 1 H, J=7.8 Hz); 7.76 (d, 1 H, J=7.8 Hz); 7.83 (d, 1 H, J=8.1 Hz); 8.19 (br.s, 1 H).
