Bis(pyridine)iodonium tetrafluoroborate (1.35 g, 3.64 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-(4-methoxybenzyl)pyridine (720 mg, 3.64 mmol) in 9:1 TFA:DCM (20 mL) and the mixture was stirred for 1 h at 0° C. The ice bath was removed and the reaction was stirred for 2 h. EtOAc was added and the mixture was washed with water twice, satd. sodium thiosulfate twice, dried over MgSO4, concentrated in vacuo, and purified by column chromatography to give 3-(3-iodo-4-methoxybenzyl)pyridine as a yellow oil. MS (ESI) m/z: Calculated: 325.0; Observed: 326.3 (M++1).
