Procedure

3,4-Dichloro-5-nitro-(1',1',2',2'-tetrafluoroethoxy)-benzene (6.4 g) was added to a pre-dried solution of caesium fluoride (4.9 g) and sulpholane (70 ml). The stirred reaction mixture was then heated to 110° C. for a total of 27 hours. After allowing to cool to the ambient temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with water and poured into hexane. The organic layer was water washed, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulphate, and the solvent removed by evaporation under reduced pressure to give 3-chloro-4-fluoro-5-nitro-(1',1',2', 2'-tetrafluoroethoxy)-benzene as an orange oil. 1H NMR δ(CDCl3): 7.85(1H,m), 7.62(1H,m), 5.95(1H,tt).
