Reaction Steps
In 1 liter of acetic acid, 100 g of 1-hydroxy-N-[γ-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)propyl]-2-naphthamide was dissolved and nitrated using 23 g of a 60% nitric acid aqueous solution at 15° to 18° C. After the completion of the reaction, 1 liter of methanol was added to the reaction mixture, and the precipitated crystals were filtered and recrystallized from 2 liters of a mixture of ethyl acetate and methanol (2:1 by volume) to provide 70 g of 1-hydroxy-4-nitro-N-[γ-(2,4-di-tert-amylphenoxy)propyl]-2-naphthamide having a melting point of 209° to 210° C.
