Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2(R)-[(N-benzyloxyamino)-methyl]-hexanoic acid-[2,2-dimethyl-1(S)-(1-methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carbonyl)-propyl]-amide (77 mg, 0.18 mmol) in dichloromethane (2 mL) at 0° C. was added formylacetic anhydride (50 μL, 0.54 mmol, 3 eqv) and the reaction allowed to stir at room temperature. After 2 hours the solvents were removed in vacuo and the residue azeotroped with toluene (2×30 mL). The product was placed under high vacuum for several hours to give the title compound as an off white waxy solid (76 mg, 93%).
