The ethylene compound obtained in Step E (48.83 mmol) is dissolved in 100 ml of CHCl3 and thioacetic acid (170.89 mmol, 3.5 eq.) is added. The mixture is stirred at reflux for 16 hours. The solvent and excess thioacetic acid are removed by evaporation under reduced pressure to yield the title compound in the form of four stereoisomers that can be separated into two enantiomer pairs:
