Procedure

2-(4-(Methoxymethyloxy)benzo(b)thiophen-2-yl)-5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (1.4 g) was dissolved in a mixed solvent (10 ml) of acetic acid-water (1:1) and the mixture was heated at 80° C. for 4 hr. The reaction mixture was poured into ice water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give an oily compound (1.4 g).
