Following General Procedure J and using 7-benzoyl-5-bromo-3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (Intermediate 38, 2.15 g, 6.53 mmol), anhydrous dichloromethane (10 mL), trifluoroacetic acid (4.12 mL, 53.5 mmol) and triethyl silane (8.4 mL, 52 mmol) followed by flash column chromatography, the title compound was obtained (1.57 g, 76%). 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.23-7.14 (m, 5H), 7.02 (d, 1H, J=1.9 Hz), 6.97 (d, 1H, J=1.9 Hz), 4.17 (s, 2H), 3.85 (s, 2H), 1.36 (s, 6H).
