A solution of 4-benzyloxycarbonyl-1-[1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-4-piperidinylamino]-2-piperazinone (3.19 g) and 10% Pd/C (0.64 g) in methanol (50 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 15 hours under a hydrogen atmosphere. The catalyst was filtered off, and the reaction mixture was concentrated to obtain 1-[1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)-4-piperidinylamino]-2-piperazinone (1.93 g) as a colorless oil.
