About 2 min after dissolving 3-[3-(3-nitrophenyl)isoxazol-5-yl]butanal (60 mg, 0.231 mmol) and 1-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperidine (44.4 mg, 0.231 mmol) in 3 mL of dry methylene chloride, were added NaBH(OAc)3 (147 mg, 0.693 mmol), cold acetic acid (15.9, 0.277 mmol) and molecular sieves (5 beads). The reaction mixture was reacted for 4.2 hr and followed the same processes as in Example 1 to obtain 80.8 mg (80.1%) of the target compound.
