To a mixture of methyl 5-{[cyclohexyl(3-methyl-1-benzothiophen-2-yl)methyl]amino}pyridine-2-carboxylate (460 mg) synthesized above, ethanol (5 mL) and tetrahydrofuran (5 mL) was added 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (5.00 mL), and the mixture was stirred overnight with heating under reflux, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in water (10 mL), 1N hydrochloric acid (5.00 mL) was added at 0° C., and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title object compound (452 mg, quantitative) as a pale-brown solid.
