The mixture of 4-amino-1-methyl-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester hydrochloride (95 mg, 0.5 mmol), 2,4,5-trichloropyrimidine (57 μL, 0.5 mmol), and sodium carbonate (106 mg, 1.0 mmol) in 3 mL of EtOH is heated at 40° C. overnight. The precipitate is filtered, washed by cold EtOH, and dried in vacuo to afford methyl 4-(2,5-dichloropyrimidin-4-ylamino)-1-methyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylate; ESMS m/z 301.0 (M+H+).
