A solution of ethyl 5-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxylate (1 eq) obtained from step B1 and NaOH (1.5 eq.) in ethanol was refluxed for 2 h. Reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and neutralized to get 5-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid.
