To a solution of ethyl N-(4-{(1S)-1-[(4-chlorophenyl)(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)methyl]butyl}benzoyl)-β-alaninate (EXAMPLE 2, Step A, 300 mg, 0.538 mmol) in DCM (10 mL) at 0° C. was slowly added BBr3 (1.0 M in DCM, 2.69 mL, 2.69 mmol). The resulting mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 6 hours. After diluting with DCM, the mixture was washed with water, then saturated NaCl (aq). The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, then concentrated to afford the title product. LC2 2.65 min. [M+H]+ 544.
