6-Bromo-2′-ethoxy-2,2-dimethylspiro[chroman-4,4′-imidazol]-5′(3′H)-one (500 mg, 1.42 mmol) is dissolved in 30 mL of EtOH, and NH3.H2O (30 mL) is added. The mixture is heated to reflux for 18 h. The mixture is removed in vacuo to give a residue, which is purified by preparative TLC to give 2′-amino-6-bromo-2,2-dimethylspiro-[chroman-4,4′-imidazol]-5′(3′H)-one (120 mg, 30%).
