4-(4-Bromophenoxy)butanoic acid (39 g, 25.6 mmol) was dissolved in SOCl2(100 ml) mixture was heated to refluxed overnight. the mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give 4-(4-bromophenoxy)butanoyl chloride (27.6 g, 67%).
