Reaction Steps
To a solution of methyl acetate (1.86 g, 0.025 mol) in THF (18 mL) was added LDA (2 M in THF) was added dropwise via a syring at −78° C. After stirring at −78° C. for 30 minutes, a solution of (E)-N-(6-bromospiro[chroman-2,1′-cyclohexane]-4-ylidene)-2-methylpropane-2-sulfonamide (5.0 g, 0.0126 mol) in THF (7.4 mL) was added dropwise via a syring. The mixture was stirring at −78° C. for 3 h. The reaction was quenched with aqueous NH4Cl solution and allowed to warming to room temperature. The mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated to give the product, which was purified by chromatography to afford methyl 2-(6-bromo-4-(1,1-dimethylethylsulfinamido)spiro[chroman-2,1′-cyclohexane]-4-yl)acetate (1.4 g, 33%). 1H NMR (CDCl3): 1.23 (s, 9H), 1.36-1.52 (m, 4H), 1.57 (m, 1H), 1.66 (m, 3H), 1.86 (d, 2H), 2.24 (d, 1H), 2.67 (d, 1H), 2.93 (s, 3H), 3.71 (s, 3H), 5.34 (s, 1H), 6.79 (d, 1H), 7.26 (s, 1H), 7.39 (s, 1H).
