Reaction Steps

To 200 ml of N,N-dimethylformamide solution containing 23.3 g (0.10 mol) of 2-bromo-6-methoxymethoxyphenol (see Synthesis, 2001, 741-744) were added 13.8 g (0.10 mol) of potassium carbonate and 19.5 ml (0.20 mol) of cyclopropylmethyl bromide, and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 hours. After completion of the reaction, water was added to the reaction mixture, and extracted with toluene. The organic layer after separation was washed with a saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and then concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was applied to silica gel column chromatography (Eluent; hexane:ethyl acetate=9:1 (V/V)), and the fractions containing the desired compound were concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 24.1 g of the title compound as a colorless oil.
