Procedure
To 30 ml of dichloromethane solution containing 1.08 g (3.0 mmol) of ethyl 5-(3-cyclopentoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-2-hydroxymethyl-1H-pyrrol-3-carboxylate obtained in Reference example 47-(d) was added 3.13 g (36 mmol) of manganese dioxide, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.2 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction suspension was filtered through Celite, and the obtained filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 1.05 g of the title compound as a yellowish solid.
