Reaction Steps

Methanesulfonyl chloride (0.18 mL, 2.33 mmol), was added dropwise to a solution of 1,1-dimethylethyl (3aR,6aS)-5-(hydroxy)-hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole-2(1H)-carboxylate (0.44 g, 1.94 mmol) and triethylamine (0.81 mL, 5.81 mmol) in 10 mL dichloromethane at 0° C. and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h at room temperature. The solvent was evaporated, the resulting crude mixture was diluted with 100 mL ethyl acetate and washed with water (30 mL), brine, 1M aqueous hydrochloric acid and brine again. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The resulting crude 1,1-dimethylethyl (3aR,6aS)-5-{[(methylsulfonyl)oxy]}hexahydrocyclopenta[c]pyrrole-2(1H)-carboxylate was used without further purification. MS (EI) for C13H23NO5S: 306 (MH+).
