A suspension of 3.75 g (9.94 mmol) of 3-[2-(5-ethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-2-oxo-ethylamino]-4-methyl-benzoic acid methyl ester and 2.9 g (30 mmol) of KSCN in 25 mL of HOAc was stirred at 100° C. for 4 h. The mixture was allowed to cool overnight before being filtered and washed with cold MeOH. The solids were dried to provide 2.65 g of 3-[4-(5-ethyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-2-mercapto-imidazol-1-yl]-4-methyl-benzoic acid methyl ester as an off-white solid.
