Procedure

A mixture of 1-methyl-4-(2-nitro-propenyl)-pyridinium tosylate (66) and Pt2O (10 wt %) in AcOH was agitated under 50 psi of H2 (gas) for a time sufficient for reaction completion. The mixture was filtered through Celite and the solvent removed by rotary evaporation to afford compound 67.
