A solution of 1-benzyl-3-propyl-6-amino-uracil (6.2 mmol) in 80% acetic acid (15 mL) and 30 mL of ethanol, was stirred at 40° C. while a solution of NaNO2 (9.3 mmol) in water (10 mL) was added drop wise. The reaction was stirred for 30 minutes at 40° C. and after concentration the product precipitated from the reaction mixture and was collected by filtration. (Pink solid. Yield 85%).
