| Product | 2-Bromo-5-methoxybenzaldehyde | HCID 344480 | 87% |
Reaction Steps
50 g of 3-methoxybenzaldehyde are dissolved in 245 ml of acetic acid. 22 ml of bromine are added dropwise at 0° C., the medium is stirred at room temperature for 4 hours, and then left overnight at room temperature. 300 ml of water are added to the solution and the expected product crystallizes. After filtration and washing with water and drying, 68 g of 2-bromo-5-methoxybenzaldehyde having the empirical formula C8H7Br.O2 are obtained (M=114 g).
