Procedure

Concentrated H2SO4 (27 ml) was added to a mixture of methyl resorcinol (12.41 g, 100 mmol) and methyl-4-fluorobenzoylacetate (21.8 g, 110 mmol) at 0° C. The resulting suspension was set aside for 40 h. Water (1 L) was added and the mixture was stirred for 1 h. The residue was filtered, washed with water (2 L) and dried to give the title compound.
