Reaction Steps
1.6 g of 5-nitro-phthalazin-1-one and 2.31 g of potassium carbonate are stirred for 10 minutes at room temperature in 60 ml of DMF. 1.1 ml of methyl iodide is added, and it is stirred overnight. It is added to water, extracted several times with ethyl acetate, and the organic phase is washed with water and brine. It is dried, and the solvent is removed in a vacuum. 1.57 g of 2-methy-5-nitro-phthalazin-1-one is obtained as a yellow solid.
