Procedure
A solution of 2-propyl-4-methylthioquinazoline (1.08 g.) in methyl iodide (5 ml.) was heated under reflux for 18 hours. The solid was separated from the cooled mixture and washed with ether to give 1-methyl-4-methylthio-2-propylquinazolinium iodide; n.m.r. in d6DMSO: 1.15(t, 3H); 2.0(m, 2H); 2.9(s, 3H); 3.35(t, 2H); 4.3(s, 3H); 7.9-8.6(complex, 4H).
