7.0 Gm of 1-chloro-8-(1-naphthyloxy)octane was refluxed for 1 hour in 100 ml of aniline. The excess aniline was then removed under vacuum and the residue was distributed between methylene chloride and dilute aqueous potassium hydroxide. The organic solution was dried and evaporated, and the residue was chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with methylene chloride, so as to produce the title compound as an oil.
