Procedure
Dissolve 7.6 g Nα -Boc-Nε -Cbz-L-lysine and 2.04 g methyl pyruvate in 75 ml methanol. Add 2 g 10% palladium on charcoal and hydrogenate at an initial pressure of 40 psig for 3 hours at room temperature. Filter the solution and concentrate the filtrate at aspirator pressure to obtain Nα -Boc-Nε -(1-methoxycarbonylethyl)-L-lysine.
