Reaction Steps
A mixture of 51.2 grams (0.17 mole) of N-phenyl-N-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-3-ethyl-5-methyl-4-isoxazole carboxamide and 5.2 grams of 10% palladium on carbon in 200 milliliters ethanol is hydrogenated at 50 pounds per square inch at room temperature overnight. The catalyst is removed by filtration and the solvent is evaporated in vacuo. The residue obtained is then treated with hexane and the resulting crystals triturated with ether to give 2-acetyl-3-amino-N-(2-dimethylaminoethyl)-N-phenyl-2-pentenamide, m.p. 103°-105° C.
