Procedure

A mixture of 2-(2-nitrophenyl)-4-fluoroanisole (427 mg, 1.73 mmol) and triethyl phosphite (3 mL) was heated to reflux for 3.5 hours. The reaction was cooled and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified via flash silica gel chromatography eluting with 2% ethyl acetate/hexanes followed by 5% ethyl acetate hexanes to give 212 mg of the title compound. Yield: 57%. MS(FD).
