Procedure
A solution of 17.1 g (64 mmol) of the ester of Example 3 in 50 ml of methanol was treated with 193 ml of 1 N KOH solution and then stirred for 20 hours at 20 to 25° C. After the solvent had been distilled off, the residue was acidified with 20% strength H2SO4 to pH 1 and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phases were dried and stripped from the solvent, whereupon 15 g of the title compound were isolated.
