Procedure
At 0° C., an aqueous 2.0 M KOH solution (15.9 mL, 31.8 mmol) was added to a stirring solution of (R)-2-(6-fluoro-3,4-dihydroquinolin-1(2H)-yl)-3-methylpropanoate (2.0 g, 7.96 mmol) in MeOH (16 mL). The reaction was allowed to warm up to RT and left stirring overnight. Due to the instability of the final product as a solid, the solution containing (R)-2-(6-fluoro-3,4-dihydroquinolin-1(2H)-yl)-3-methylbutanoic acid was used for the next step without further work up. LC/MS (10%-99% CH3CN (0.035% TFA)/H2O (0.05% TFA), m/z: M+1 obs=223.24; tR=2.92 min.
