To a solution of 4-chloro-6-[2-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-ethylamino]-pyrimidine-2-carbaldehyde (70 mg, 0.21 mmol) in MeOH (4 mL) is added sodium borohydride (24 mg, 0.63 mmol). The mixture is stirred for 4 hours at ambient temperature. Water (20 mL) is added and the mixture is extracted thrice with ethyl acetate (25 mL). The organic extracts are combined and dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated to afford {4-chloro-6-[2-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-ethylamino]-pyrimidin-2-yl}-methanol (67 mg) as a solid.
