The reaction of 1,4-dimethyl-2-[(2-aminoethyl)thiomethyl]imidazole (derived from the 6.2 g. dihydrobromide) with methyl isothiocyanate (1.34 g.) in ethanol (50 ml.) followed by chromatography on a column of silica gel with ethyl acetate-ethanol (9:1) an eluant gave N-methyl-N'-[2-((1,4-dimethyl-2-imidazolyl)methylthio)ethyl]thiourea (2.1 g.).
