Sodium borohydride (8 mg, 0.2 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-(2-{3,3-difluoro-2-[4-(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-2-hydroxypropyl}-1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-2,2-dimethylpropanal (70 mg, 0.1 mmol) in methanol (3 mL). After stirring at ambient temperature until the reaction was complete (LCMS), the reaction mixture was quenched with water and extracted with methylene chloride. The combined organic extracts were dried (magnesium sulfate) and concentrated in vacuo to afford 3-(2-{3,3-difluoro-2-[4-(5-fluoropyridin-2-yl)phenyl]-2-hydroxypropyl}-1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-2,2-dimethylpropan-1-ol which was used without further purification.
