Reaction Steps
After 3 hours at room temperature, a solution of 500 mg (0.59 mmole) of taxol, 900 mg (7.6 mmole) of succinic anhydride in 12 mL of pyridine is evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue is treated with 20 mL of water, stirred for 20 min. and filtered. The precipitate is dissolved in acetone, water slowly added, and the fine crystals collected. This yields 490 mg (86%) of title compound which showed: mp 178°-80° C., [a] -42.1° (c=1.1 EtOH); Anal. (C H NO H 0) C,H,N.
