Procedure
A solution of the compound from Example 17 (10 g., 0.029 mole) in 400 ml. of methylene chloride was treated with 8.52 g. of AlCl3 all at once at 0°. The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature and an additional 3.87 g. of AlCl3 was added. Stirring was continued for an additional 3 hours at which time 3.87 g. of AlCl3 was again added. After stirring for 41/2 hours, the mixture was poured into 800 ml. of crushed ice and the precipitate filtered. The solid was washed with ethanol and dried to give 8.67 g. of product, m.p. 204°.
