A solution of (5-dimethylaminomethyl-benzofuran-3-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester (170 mg, 0.69 mmol) in a mixture of methanol (15 mL) and liquid ammonia (15 mL) is stirred for 2 days in an autoclave at 60° C. After careful evaporation of the ammonia, the remaining solvent is evaporated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a yellow oil (160 mg, 0.69 mmol, 100%). MS (ES+): 233 (M(C13H16N2O2)+H)+.
