To a solution of 5-(1,1-dimethyl-indan-5-yloxymethyl)-4,5-dihydro-oxazol-2-ylamine (0.41 g, 1.57 mmol) in ethanol (16 mL) was added 2-formyl-butyric acid ethyl ester (0.34 g, 2.23 mmol). The reaction mixture was heated at reflux for 20 hours. It was then concentrated and loaded on a silica gel column. Chromatography with (1-5%) 2-propanol/methylene chloride gave 0.092 g of the title product. [α]D25=−24.1 (c=0.76, CHCl3).
