To a solution of 5-(5,5-dimethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-naphthalen-2-yloxymethyl)-4,5-dihydro-oxazol-2-ylamine (0.5 g, 1.82 mmol) in ethanol (16 mL) was added 2-formyl-butyric acid ethyl ester (0.39 g, 2.7 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour, and then heated at reflux for 24 hours. It was then concentrated and loaded on a silica gel column. Chromatography with (1-5%) 2-propanol/methylene chloride gave 0.15 g the title product. [α]D25=−26.8 (c=0.74, CHCl3).
