A solution of lithium hydroxide (1 N, 4.75 ml) was added to a stirred mixture of [4-methyl-6-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)pyridin-3-yl]acetate (1.00 g, 4.29 mmol) in THF (10 ml) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction mixture was acidified to pH ˜3-4 and extracted with EtOAc (3×). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to provide [4-methyl-6-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl)pyridin-3-yl]acetic acid which was used directly in the next step without further purification. LC-MS (IE, m/z): 206 [M+1]+.
